The Remembrance Service at NPA

Nene Park Academy’s Remembrance Service

Staff and students at Nene Park Academy joined with the nation to mark Armistice Day 2018, which this year was particularly poignant as it commemorated 100 years since the end of First World War.

During the Service students from each of the 5 houses presented wreaths as the Head Boy, Alex Moroz, read out the names of the former staff and students of the predecessor schools who selflessly gave their lives in the service of their country. NPA’s CCF contingent were also in uniform, with one of their cadets also presenting a wreath at the Service. In addition, and to commemorate the 100 years’ anniversary, students from each of the houses also presented silhouetted soldiers and coloured poppies, which each tutor group had cut out in their respective house colours, which will all be used to create a commemorative display in the school.

Over 1200 students and staff stood in respectful silence in the school’s Courtyard as the Last Post was played by Mrs Elaine Chambers, one of NPA’s English teachers. Head Girl, Freya Larter, joined Mr Fullard (Head of Sixth Form) and Vicki Gaffney (CCF Detachment Commander), to read out poems as part of this year’s Remembrance Service.
