What happens after signing-up?
Students will attend three Thursday meetings at 3pm in Room 210 (22nd November, 29th November and 6th December). During these meetings students will be given more information about the DofE and this will be their opportunity to drop out and receive a full refund should they decide that it isn’t for them. (N.B. Once an eDofE account has been created, we are unable to offer a refund).
Over the Christmas break you will need to support your child with choosing the specific activities that they will undertake. They must complete:-
- 3 months (one hour a week minimum) of VOLUNTEERING
- 3 months of SKILL DEVELOPMENT
- 6 months of PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
(N.B. These do not need completing at the same time).
For ideas on what activities can be undertaken, please refer to the attached ‘Programme Ideas’.Programme Ideas
In January students will attend Thursday meetings to sign in to their eDofE account and add in their chosen activities. They can then start the Bronze Award from this point.
After Easter there will be training sessions in preparation for the PRACTICE EXPEDITION, (2 days hiking with an overnight camp) in June/July.
In September there will also be some more sessions to cover route planning/prep for the ASSESSED EXPEDITION, (2 days hiking with an overnight camp) in September/October.
Once an eDofE account has been created and students have started the award, we are unable to offer a refund. £21 of the £80 fee is to pay for a Welcome Pack and the eDofE account. The rest of the money covers part of the costs that we incur as a school, such as licence fee, campsites and student first aid training.
For the EXPEDITION, students can borrow a tent, rucksack, compass, maps and stove but will need to provide other equipment themselves such as boots, sleeping bags/mats, clothing and food.
Mr Robertson will email key pieces of information to parents but the expectation is that students will take responsibility for organising themselves, passing on any relevant information and for completing the award.
