KS3

Studying in KS3 (Years 7 and 8)

KS3 students follow an exciting curriculum which allow them to excel with subject specific teaching through a range of topics studied throughout the year.

Maths and English continue to be a focus with a large part of the curriculum dedicated to these subjects and GL assessments used to measure progress over time.

Literacy and numeracy are embedded throughout all subjects to ensure that students can use these transferable skills throughout their learning of all subjects.

At NPA we ensure that students are given opportunities to excel in all areas of the curriculum with an exciting gifted and talented programme which builds on and extends the KS3 curriculum. All students study French as their Modern Foreign Language in Year 7 with some students also studying Spanish as a second language. Science is extended through an innovative Session 6 schedule which develops the core curriculum and allows all students to engage with the CREST awards which are designed to develop students’ practical skills to the highest level. All other subjects extend and develop their subjects through a Session 6 provision designed to motivate and challenge students of all abilities.

Our Year 7 PE curriculum offers pupils the opportunity to Participate, Lead, Achieve and Excel. Students complete modules in traditional sports such as Football, Netball, Rugby, Hockey, Cricket and Rounders but they are also offered new PE experiences such as Contemporary Dance, Futsal, Gymnastics, Cycling and Fitness Training. Our comprehensive PE curriculum offers our Year 7 students a pathway to discover, explore, build self confidence and promote life-long involvement in sport.

Timetables at KS3 (Year 7 and 8)

Each year group is split into two mixed ability bands entitled East and West. For some subjects students are set based on their ability and in other subjects they stay in mixed ability and in many cases smaller groups to support creativity. Students progress to study more subjects in greater detail to support them whilst making their option choices.
